Mahtanevatko johtokunnan jäsenet miettiä, mihin nämäkinen ensiharvennuskoon männyt saanee myydyksi, kun Kemijärven selluloosatehdas (Stora-Enso) oli jo menossa kiinni?
Entäs jos tältäkin alueelta korjattaisiin biomassa runkoineen, kantoineen ja maaperän turpeineen energiaksi, ja raivattu maa otettaisiin suoviljelyyn - käyttäen Yhdistyksessä jo vuodesta 1894 lähtien kehitettyä tietotaitoa ja kerättyä kokemusta.
The Finnish Peatland Husbandry Association had its annual meeting and field excursion in Rovaniemi. Peatland forestry experiment with Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) was visited. One and the other of the members of the board might have wondered if this is the optimum use of peatland dominated land. Questioning was becoming more and more obvious, as the obvious buyer of the first thinning Scots pines, Kemijarvi pulp factory (Stora Enso) was to be closed soon.
How about using the full biomass (stems, branches, stumps and peat) for fuel and starting peatland husbandry with suitable plants on the bottom of the peat soil? Peatland Husbandry Association has know-how and experience in Finland on such issues over a period of more than 100 years, since 1894.
